The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will host an in-person educational event for cattle producers and interested stakeholders at the USDA Cattle and Carcass Training Center (CCTC) at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in Canyon, Texas, on Thursday, Sept. 18.
The event will focus on fed cattle grading and evaluation, in addition to performing a simulated CME Group Live Cattle delivery. Attendees will hear from USDA staff, CME Group representatives and industry experts and participate in live cattle demonstrations.
While anyone can attend the events, they are targeted to producers, feeders and other stakeholders who want a better understanding of factors that contribute to the market value of cattle and how these factors can inform marketing and production decisions.
Registration is required for the event, which is free and open to the public, limited to 75 attendees. To register, email David Garcia, livestock, poultry and grain market news acting field chief, at David.Garcia@usda.gov. For more information, click here.
The 2018 Farm Bill directed USDA to establish the CCTCs to conduct activities that limit subjectivity in the application of cattle and beef grading standards, provide producers with a greater understanding of the value of their cattle and provide investors more confidence in the CME cattle delivery system.
