ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association (PTNPA) announced the release of its first economic impact report, “Nut Numbers: The Economic Impact of the Nut Industry.” The study defines the economic contributions of the nut industry in the United States. The report and interactive electronic map show current economic factors and contributions nationwide and by state.

The report reveals the U.S. nut industry generates $148.25 billion annually and supports 515,107 jobs nationally, PTNPA reported. Also, the nut industry pays $15.70 billion in total taxes and powers $10.69 billion in annual exports, the report found. 

“Offering data-backed evidence of the nut industry’s economic significance is a meaningful step in the history of the PTNPA,” said Joel Perkins, CEO, Horizon Nut and PTNPA chairman. “As the voice of America’s Nut Industry, this report proves the value, importance and impact of our robust industry.”

The report highlights the economic influence of the nut industry, encompassing jobs, wages and direct outputs linked to the peanut and tree nut sectors, PTNPA said. 

“This report serves as a source of pride and a powerful tool for future context, education and advocacy,” said Jeannie Shaughnessy, CEO, PTNPA. “Concrete evidence of our economic contributions will inspire industry leaders as we continue to engage with government representatives and policymakers with unprecedented authority.”
