VIDAS UP uses phage recombinant technology to detect Escherichia coli O157:H7. Bacteriophages are highly specific, ultra sensitive viruses that infect bacteria by using adhesion structures to bind to the E. coli O157:H7 host.
VIDAS UP is the most rapid microbiology test on the market for the detection of E. coli O157:H7, with results available in just seven hours, the company said. In addition, VIDAS UP has the flexibility to analyze larger sample sizes of up to 375 grams.
And due to the ability of the bacteriophage to find its host in the harshest environments, VIDAS UP can be used to detect E.coli O157:H7 in mud, feces and hay. As a result, laboratories experience reduced instances of false-positive tests and increased productivity in the laboratory, the company said.
Exclusively licensed to bioMérieux, the recombinant phage technology was developed by the German company Profos AG. The new test is available on VIDAS and mini VIDAS.
