Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling frozen Whole Catch Yellow Fin Tuna Steaks due to possible health risks. The steaks have a "best by" date of December 5, 2010 and are sold frozen in 12 oz packages. The fish is being recalled for possible elevated levels of histamine in the product. Elevated levels of histamine can produce an allergic reaction called "scromboid poisoning". The symptoms of scromboid poisoning are tingling or burning sensation in mouth, hives, facial swelling, rash, itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
The product has a lot code of: 853309157A and a UPC code of: 0-99482-42078-9.
If consumers have this product, they can return it to Whole Foods for a full refund. The fish was distributed in 28 states.
