The USDA is pouring $18.2 million into specialty crops — and food safety is at the top of the list of their priorities.
Three million dollars of the grant will go to the University of California, Davis Center for Produce Safety to find solutions for salmonella and E coli contamination in local crops. The study will focus on whether contamination comes from irrigation water or pesticide sprays.
