United Fresh Pushing for Improved Guest Worker Program

Says produce industry harmed by the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Arizona's immigration law

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United Fresh Produce Association is urging for an improved guest worker program in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s immigration law (SB 1070), according to a statement released by the Association on June 26.

United Fresh said the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s immigration law will likely lead to greater labor force instability for the produce industry in Arizona.

“This labor force instability could impact farm employers across the country because of the migratory nature of labor in the produce industry,” the organization said.

The Supreme Court’s decision underscores the need for a comprehensive and practical guest worker program for agriculture to enable produce industry employers to remain viable and competitive, United Fresh said.

“United Fresh will continue to work with Congress on this vital priority for the produce industry,” they said.
