U.S. and South Korea Sign Free Trade Agreement

Members of South Korea’s largest union walked off the job for a second day in opposition to the deal.

SEOUL, South Korea — The U.S. and South Korea signed a free trade agreement June 30 after a year of negotiations. The agreement contains provisions for stricter labor and environmental standards, which were pushed by U.S. officials.

The agreement still has to be approved by lawmakers in South Korea and by Congress before it is implemented.

Critics of the deal said it will create labor disputes among workers in both countries.
