HERSHEY, Pa. — Tröegs Independent Brewing has partnered with the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and the Dairy Excellence Foundation to invest in the future of the state’s dairy industry.

Through the Student Leader Scholarship program, this partnership recently granted $3,000 scholarships to 10 Pennsylvania-based students pursuing careers in the dairy, agriculture and farming industries.

Pennsylvania students pursuing careers in dairy, agriculture and farming receive Student Leadership Scholarships.

Offered annually, these scholarships provide recognition, encouragement and financial assistance to eligible students who are enrolled in academic programs that support the dairy industry. Recipients are selected based on academic performance, interest in a dairy-related career, evidence of leadership, character and integrity.

“This program allows us to invest in the passionate, hardworking students who make up the next generation of dairy,” said Michelle Shearer, workforce development manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence. “Thanks to this partnership, we are collaborating to create innovative learning opportunities and offer financial assistance to students who are committed to future careers in dairy.”

At the heart of Tröegs’ contribution is a collaboration between the family-owned, Hershey, Pa.-based brewery, Caputo Brothers Creamery and Giant Food Stores. Since 2019, the companies have created four beer cheeses, each made with local milk and Tröegs beer.

“Our cheese collaborations with Caputo Brothers use 100% Pennsylvania cow’s milk, so our connection to Pennsylvania agriculture already runs deep,” said Tröegs cofounder Chris Trogner. “These scholarships are a great way to amplify that connection and support the future of the industry.”

According to the Center for Dairy Excellence, Pennsylvania is ranked eighth in total milk production nationally, with nearly 10 billion pounds of milk produced annually. With approximately 5,000 dairies, Pennsylvania has the second largest number of dairy farms in the country, second only to Wisconsin.

“We pride ourselves on not only making cheese that tastes good, but also does good,” said Rynn Caputo, president of Spring Grove, Pa.-based Caputo Brothers Creamery. “The fact that these beer cheeses are helping Pennsylvania dairies find new paths to success is really exciting, and we couldn’t be more honored to work with Giant and Tröegs to do so.”

Tröegs beer cheese is available in all Giant Food Stores, Martin’s Food Markets and Giant Heirloom Market locations.
