TORONTO, Ont., Canada — If you were to walk through a grocery store with a Skjodt-Barrett employee, they could certainly point out a few items in every aisle that contains a Skjodt-Barrett product. For the past 20 years, Skjodt-Barrett has been the silent partner found in many brand name and private label food products. As a leading supplier of custom-developed fruit fillings, icings, glazes, sauces, marinades and caramels, the team has developed hundreds of flavors, from the traditional to the exotic, that have completed thousands of recipes for the North American food industry.
The company was originally founded by Sid Barrett as “Betty’s Jams” in 1955. In 1985, the business was renamed Skjodt-Barrett Foods Inc. Dan Skjodt became the sole owner in 1987. Since then, the company has grown to offer over 20 different food categories and hundreds of flavors. The company is recognized throughout the industry for their exceptional turnaround time in the preparation of custom developed formulations. Skjodt-Barrett prides themselves on delivering complete solutions for their customers quickly. Pal Shah, Vice President of Skjodt-Barrett shares a story about the team’s responsiveness, “One of our customers was informed without notice by their current supplier that they were closing their doors immediately and would not be able to fulfill any of the pending orders. They contacted us asking for help. We met with the customer the same day in order to understand the requirements as this was a new category for us. Even with this being a brand new venture for Skjodt-Barrett, we enthusiastically endeavored to find a solution to our customers issue quickly. In only four days, we formulated the product, created test batches, received customer acceptance, ran a full production that met all QA hurdles, and had it to our customer so they could fill their commitments on time.”
Skjodt-Barrett is also known for their outstanding dedication to quality in their ingredients, procedures, and practices. Examples of their commitment include evaluating each ingredient by internal experts upon arrival, operating a Kosher facility, and assessing products up to three times during manufacturing to assure compliance in process and before shipment.
Dan Skjodt, owner of Skjodt-Barrett, voices his pride by saying, “We are very pleased to be celebrating this important milestone. As a company, we have accomplished many great achievements. Looking forward to the future, we have already established new objectives, which include being recognized as one of Canada’s TOP 100 Best Employers & 50 Best Managed Companies and to be named Canada’s premier supplier of custom fillings, icings, glazes, caramel and sauces. Skjodt-Barrett’s success comes from operating as an 80-person family – supporting each other in our goals and priorities. I am proud to be a part of this team.”
