Chicago, Ill.—Schwebel Baking Company was recently recognized by independent bakery cooperative, The Long Company, as manufacturing the Best Premium Bun. This is the fourth consecutive year that Schwebel’s has won the annual Gold Cup Trophy for best buns, with more than 70 wholesale bakeries having submitted premium bread samples in the annual bread and bun competition.
The samples are rated by the Long Company’s Technical Services staff on qualities such as crust thickness and color, interior grain and uniformity of cell structure, flavor, aroma and general eating qualities. The annual winner, the manufacturer with the highest average score for one year worth of product, receives a traveling trophy to display for the year.
Schwebel’s Hebron, Ohio, plant scored 95.89 points (of a possible 100) in the bun category. Gold Medal Bakery, Fall River, Mass., placed second for its bread, and Schwebel’s Youngstown, Ohio, plant placed third. Results of the top 14 bread and bun winners are available on The Long Company’s Website, www.thelongco.com.
