OKEMOS, MICH. – A new online resource, www.sanitationtools.com, is available for food safety professionals looking for the latest food sanitation equipment and food safety related products. Introduced at the March 2005 Food Safety Summit in Washington, D.C., SanitationTools.com offers a broad line of sanitation products, equipment and training videos.
A service of Sanitation Strategies, LLC, an Okemos, Mich.-based hygienic solutions company, the site is designed to bring together a broad selection of food sanitation equipment and provide resources for cutting edge technology to reduce microbial contamination, increase shelf life, improve sanitation employee safety and ensure consumer safety.
“Traditionally, food sanitation equipment and related food safety products have only been available through the food processor’s sanitation chemical supplier,” said Sherman L. McDonald, president of Sanitation Strategies, LLC. “The challenge for the food processor is that they don’t always get exposure to the latest food safety and sanitation equipment technology.”
SanitationTools.com also helps food processors reduce costs through equipment purchase rather than chemical-supplier loan, McDonald said. “The food processor does not see the sanitation equipment they use as a capital expenditure under the loan program, however, they are paying for the equipment they use in the price of the chemicals they purchase.”
Standard practice is for the chemical supplier to calculate the cost of the loaned equipment then add a surcharge to the product to cover this, McDonald explained, adding in most cases the surcharge covers the equipment cost in 12 to 18 months, after which the vendor typically keeps the surcharge in place. By owning their sanitation equipment and negotiating a lower price for chemical, food processors can often reduce their overall sanitation costs.
