Researchers Study Effects of Irradiation on Antimicrobial-Coated Packaging

Their study demonstrated that irradiation may serve as a controlling factor for release of active compounds, with potential applications in the development of antimicrobial packaging systems.

Researchers at Texas A&M University investigated the effect of electron beam irradiation, storage conditions, and model food pH on the release characteristics of trans-cinnamaldehyde incorporated into polyamide-coated low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films.

Their study demonstrated that irradiation may serve as a controlling factor for release of active compounds, with potential applications in the development of antimicrobial packaging systems.
