HONG KONG — South Korea and Canada have resumed talks to allow Canadian beef imports after a five-year ban, the Yonhap news service reported Monday.
Negotiations made little progress in November last year. Citing unnamed South Korean government officials, the report said Canada wanted to export beef without any restrictions placed on the age of animals providing the meat.
But South Korea may only permit imports of meat from cattle less than 30 months old. The 30-month age limit is important because most mad-cow-disease cases involved older animals, the report added.
