WASHINGTON D.C. — S.510 has taken another step closer to becoming law and increasing food safety management requirements. Some of those requirements are aimed at those that import foods, requiring importers to manage the food safety of their suppliers. The food safety consultants at Vinca, LLC are helping importers prepare.
If passed, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act will require that importers manage foreign suppliers for food safety. There are several options for how an importer may handle this. Verification activities to ensure safe product is one option, the other is to make sure your suppliers get qualified. The foreign supplier would participate in a voluntary qualified importer program. One way of getting qualified would be by getting a recognized Third Party Certification.
