According to reports in USA Today and the Denver Post, Jensen Farms had received an audit score of 96% shortly before the first person fell ill from the cantaloupe-borne listeria outbreak.
The audit was conducted by a Primus Labs auditor, who noted questionable methods in his report, but did not score against the farm for them.
A primary question being raised is that of the lack of any antimicrobial agent in the cantaloupe wash water. Instead, the farm had recently switched to a fresh water rinse.
