The 2015 Australian HACCP Conference will feature a revamped format including a one-day conference, one day of workshops and an exclusive Sydney Foodie Tour. Held in Sydney November 18-19 and hosted by SAI Global, this annual event for industry professionals will explore topical issues in food safety.

The annual HACCP Conference attracts a wide range of industry professionals from a range of sectors. Last year’s highlights included keynote addresses from some of the industries most respected speakers. Steven Newton, MD at Newton Risk-Stream Management, spoke about a global food pandemic and recommend actions to prevent it and Ros Harvey, founding director of Sense T, discussed her studies creating the world’s first economy-wide intelligent sensor network.

The conference is combined with the Australian HACCP Awards gala function which provides the food industry with a vehicle to recognise and reward the achievements of those who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our food supply.

For the first time this year, the Australian HACCP Conference is offering the opportunity to attend the conference online. This will provide a convenient option to experience the benefits of the event for those unable to travel to Sydney.

This year’s presentations include Australian and International speakers, providing attendees the opportunity to gain both local and global perspectives. Topics include Seafood Sustainability; Hepatitis A and other Nasties in the supply chain; and QA Harmonization. The speaker line-up includes Dr Geoffrey Annison of the Australian Food and Grocery Council. Before his current position of Deputy Chief Executive and Health Nutrition and Scientific Affairs he has held a number of senior technical and management roles in the Australian and overseas food industries, both in academia and public policy. This wide experience in food regulation and innovation has provided him with an extensive knowledge of current industry issues, particularly in the technical arena.

Joining him is Richard Bennett, technology manager for the Fresh Produce Safety Centre and recipient of the Ross Peters Award for Food Safety Excellence from the 2014 HACCP awards. Bennett has had a full career working in numerous aspects of horticulture including in the nursery, seed and fruit processing industries, and as an industry development officer, trainer, agronomist and executive officer for a number of fruit grower associations. Bennett has worked on numerous resources to improve the food safety culture and performance of Australian horticulture and is regarded as a go-to person on quality assurance, food safety, and crisis management among many others.
