National GMO Labeling Draft Bill Introduced in Senate

The draft bill, which the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry Committee will markup Thursday, requires the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a national voluntary labeling standard for bioengineered, or GMO, foods. It is similar to the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 that passed the House in June. The legislation is outraging consumer groups lobbying for mandatory labeling laws and garnering support from proponents of the House bill.
