Dovèl Technologies Launches MyFoodAlerts.com

MyFoodAlerts.com pulls data from multiple sources, currently including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), to provide a holistic view of food-related recalls in the U.S. and Canada.

McCLEAN, Va. - Dovèl Technologies, a leader in software application development and emerging information technology solutions, announced the launch of MyFoodAlerts.com, an application that pulls data from multiple sources, currently including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), to provide a holistic view of food-related recalls in the U.S. and Canada.

Until now, there has not been a way to reconcile that data into a single view for wide distribution to the public. The FDA monitors and controls all food products except meat, poultry, and fish which are monitored and controlled by the USDA. Canadian alert feeds were added because much of the food in Canada originates in the U.S. and CFIA’s feeds may provide alerts not currently being reported by U.S. agencies. Bringing in alerts from other countries, Canada being the first, recognizes the global supply chain involved in food production and packaging.

The application uses public feeds from FDA, USDA, and CFIA and, using semantic technology, analyzes recall data. The application then translates the information into a user-friendly map interface accessible at myFoodAlerts.com. Data about the feed is also published into the data.gov format.
