DENVER — South Korea's three major discount retailers, E-Mart, Home Plus and Lotte Mart, will resume sales of U.S. beef on Thanksgiving Day in Seoul, announced the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
The chains issued a joint press release announcing their decision explaining it is due in part to the slow economy and financial difficulties facing South Koreans. The retailers stated their sales of U.S. beef will provide value and convenience and help stabilize consumer prices.
"U.S.M.E.F. has been actively urging all of the big chains to resume U.S. beef sales since mid-summer", said Philip Seng, U.S.M.E.F. president and chief executive officer. "We are very pleased that E-Mart, Home Plus and Lotte Mart have made the decision to re-enter the market with U.S. beef."
