Raw Macadamia nuts —some whole, others chopped or diced — produced by Bellevue, Neb.-based Marathon Ventures, have been voluntarily recalled by the company after the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found Salmonella contamination during routine testing, according to a company/FDA notification.
The nuts were sold after March 11, 2014 “through grocery, food service and other retail outlets throughout the country,” the FDA said in a news release. No specific list of retailers was immediately available. The nuts were sold under brand names that included Shurfine, Western Family, Hyvee, Market Pantry, Pear’s Gourmet, Cash-Wa Distributing, Pegler Sysco, and Mayan Gold.
No known illnesses have been reported in connection with the potentially contaminated nuts. Consumers who have purchased the items should return the packages to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement, FDA officials said.
