SAN DIEGO - Reuters reports that Illumina has signed a $17 million contract to provide the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with its MiSeq DNA sequencer to help the FDA track food-related pathogen outbreaks.
The agency will use MiSeq for whole genome analysis on products and samples of Salmonella and E. coli, according to Reuters.
Retuers notes that this deal comes just two weeks after the Center For Food Safety filed suit against FDA for alleged failure to fully enforce the Food Safety and Modernization Act.
