The “Safe Food for Canadians Act” that will soon be implemented is likely to have a major impact on about 80,000 food facilities in Canada. A good number of them will seek certification to a Global Food Safety Initiative-recognized scheme to comply with the legislation.
To help Canadian food facilities in the process of becoming certified, the 7th Annual Maple Leaf Food Safety Symposium | GFSI Focus Day Canada will take place on October 6 in Toronto, at the Mississauga Convention Center. Over 400 top food safety executives, decision makers and food industry stakeholders from Canada and across North America will gather this first ever GFSI event in the country. As new regulations come into force focusing on continuous improvement in food safety based on science, global trends and best practices, the GFSI provides the optimal framework for collaboration and guidance. Delegates will learn and share knowledge on the way forward in food safety within the GFSI approach.
At the forum, Sobeys Vice President of Food Safety Neil Checketts will highlight the experience of customers and suppliers working together to become certified in Canada. In addition, officials from Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) will discuss the resources and services they offer to help small Canadian businesses to become certified as well.
