San Antonio, Texas- Food Safety Net Services (FSNS) announce the addition of Dr. Amit Morey to the Science and Technical Team. Dr. Morey has a strong background in the field of food safety, microbiology, chemistry, processing technologies and product quality. His expertise lies in the seafood, poultry, beef and pork industries. During his Ph.D. studies at Auburn University he researched the effects of an all natural antimicrobial on the growth of Listeria monocytogenes, along with physical attributes of ready-to-eat poultry products and consumer acceptability. Additional research Dr. Morey has conducted includes Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter on various foods and processing conditions as well as research on microbial shelf-life enhancement of fresh and processed foods, rapid methods of bacterial identification, bacterial fatty acids and taxonomy. Dr. Morey has worked on several emerging microbial intervention technologies including UV light application for decontamination of food contact surfaces and Modified Atmosphere Packaging and is well versed with the concept of GMPs, HACCP, standard protocols and methods. His graduate studies at Auburn University and The University of Alaska-Fairbanks provided him experience in various cultural and rapid diagnostic methods for identification and enumeration of microorganisms.
