FSMA Final Rules Published, Compliance Dates Begin September 2016

After a delay of 10 days, the first two final rules of FSMA were published to the Federal Register today and are available for review. The Preventive Controls for Human Food rule and Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule are now final.


After a delay of 10 days, the first two final rules of FSMA were published to the Federal Register today and are available for review. The Preventive Controls for Human Food rule and Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule are now final, with compliance dates for some businesses beginning in September 2016.

According to the FDA announcement, the preventive controls final rules are the result of an extensive outreach effort, and incorporate thousands of public comments, including valuable input from farmers, consumers, the food industry and academic experts, to create a flexible and targeted approach to ensuring food safety.
