WASHINGTON ¯ The Food Safety and Inspection Service announced it will conduct a third food defense plan survey from Aug. 1-30 to gather data about the industry’s voluntary adoption of functional food defense plans.
Results from the first survey taken in August 2006 established a baseline adoption rate of 27 percent. The second survey, conducted in November 2007, showed an increased adoption rate of 31 percent. FSIS’ goal is a food defense plan adoption rate of 90 percent
Inspection program personnel will receive the survey questions through the Performance-Based Inspection System. The notice provides instructions to IPP on how to complete the questions in the survey and describes how FSIS will analyze the data received from the results.
