WASHINGTON, D.C. - The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced it will increase collected product samples under its Routine Risk-based L. monocytogenes (RLm) Sampling Program and its Intensified Verification Testing (IVT) protocol from three samples to five per sampling unit.
FSIS is seeking feedback on these changes to "make its sampling procedures more consistent with international practices, to conserve its laboratory resources and to improve public health," the agency said.
The changes will begin 60 days after Sept. 24, 2012, the day of the announcement, FSIS said.
