FPAA Offering Seminar on Imports, Food Safety

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, Nogales, Ariz., is sponsoring a seminar on imports and food safety Nov. 18-19 in Tubac, Ariz.

Officials from the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are scheduled to participate.

“We’re excited that we could work with CBP, FDA, and USDA to coordinate this event,” FPAA president Jesse Driskill said in a news release. “We’re anticipating a diverse audience, from U.S. importers to growers, customhouse brokers and other companies involved in providing fresh fruits and vegetables to consumers across North America.”

CBP officials are scheduled to discuss supply chain security, import compliance and cargo procedures. USDA officials will discuss the role of that agency and CBP in conducting agriculture inspections at ports of entry.

The FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and the Division of Import Operations and Policy plans to address Good Agricultural Practices, the agency’s Food Protection Plan and Import Safety Action Plan, tracebacks and the handling of imported products.

The seminar will be at the Tubac Golf Resort and Spa. The two-day event costs $80 for FPAA members and $160 for non-members.
