LEXINGTON, Mass. — Shi-Wei Zhang has been named chief chemist at Food Quality Sensor International (FQSI) of Lexington, Mass. Zhang will focus on optimizing current chemical formulations as well as developing next generation products.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Zhang aboard to help with our food science and chemistry efforts. His background is ideal for us, as we strive to enhance the consumer protection features of our SensorQ label technology targeted at meat suppliers and our SensorfreshQ hand-held freshness meter targeted at consumers,” said Alain Hanover, president and CEO of FQSI.
Zhang has worked extensively in organic chemistry, polymer-based nanotechnology and chemical sensor research. Most recently, he was director of chemistry at Saoirse Corporation in Cambridge, Mass. He has also worked with one of the world’s foremost polymer chemists, Professor Timothy M. Swager, at MIT.
Zhang received his Ph.D. in organometalic chemistry from Kyoto University in Japan, a master’s degree in physical chemistry from Kyoto University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Dalian University of Technology in China.
