The Alliance marked an active first year in support of quality food laboratory testing. Through its coalition of organizations, it represents hundreds of food laboratories, hundreds of thousands of food laboratory products and services, and millions of consumers, she explained.
“Our goal in year one was to raise awareness of the role of laboratory testing in food safety,” said Alliance Director Robin Stombler. “The Alliance has already been identified as a ‘go-to’ source for credible information on the food laboratory.”
In its first year, the Alliance has provided written and oral statements to the FDA on all the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) proposed rules that address laboratory testing. It has met with federal policymakers on laboratory quality-related issues, and it produced infographics that are used to help explain how testing is integral to food safety.
“The Alliance has relayed the message that quality testing has a significant role in a modern food safety system,” Stombler said. “Moving forward, we also recognize there is a wider role for the Alliance in informing the food community and the public on the general importance of laboratory standards.”
