SILVER SPRING, Md. — Today is the one-year anniversary of the Food and Drug Administration's release of its New Era of Smarter Food Safety blueprint. To recognize the anniversary, Janet Woodcock, acting commissioner of food and drugs, and Frank Yiannas, deputy commissioner for food policy and response, co-wrote a post on the agency's site.
In the post, they give context to what the agency saw as a need for the initiative and blueprint, including the fact that it launched in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The post also covers topics such as enhanced food traceability, predictive analytics, import screening, inspections and bending the curve of foodborne illness.
