E. coli Listed as Contributing Factor in Hefner’s Death

Although Playboy Found Hugh Hefner died after going into cardiac arrest and then experiencing respiratory failure, his death certificate lists a recent battle with E. coli and Septicemia as contributing factors. Septicemia is a severe blood infection that is highly resistant to antibiotics. The news was first reported by The Blast, which obtained a copy of the death certificate. Hefner died September 27 at the age of 91.

E. coli is most often contracted from contaerinated food or water, but no source has, as of yet, been disclosed for Hefner’s condition. The news is, however, increasing the focus on the antibiotic resistance as well as E. coli contamination.
