The Demeter system from Heatflex Corporation is an innovative new product that automates the media preparation process in food manufacturing QA/QC labs. It is designed for use in testing procedures for common food pathogens including e. coli and salmonella. Demeter precisely dispenses a measured amount of heated, sterilized water into a test sample bag, and may be used with either pre-packaged sterile test media or with bulk media. Designed for high volume operations, the system increases lab throughput in the media preparation process by up to 7 times, reduces human errors in measurements, and improves lab safety by eliminating the need for an autoclave to sterilize test media. Demeter also logs media test data, providing quicker and more accurate record keeping than laboratory notebooks, and can be interfaced to a lab information management system (LIMS). Demeter provides substantial operational efficiencies in food testing labs by reducing waste, water, energy, and chemical usage.
