Two Japanese food companies have pulled products from store shelves and issued a recall after pieces of cockroaches were found in their noodle meals, WSJ reports.
Maruka Foods Corp., based in Gunma prefecture, confirmed Thursday that cockroach pieces had been found in one of its packages of instant noodles, and that it “could not deny the possibility” that some products contaminated with foreign objects might have accidentally been shipped from its factory.
Maruka’s actions follows similar steps by Nissin Foods Holdings Co.2897.TO -1.05%, which recalled its frozen pasta meals Wednesday.
In Nissin’s case, the company said that pieces of what appear to be a cockroach were found in tomato cream-flavored frozen pasta manufactured Oct. 21 at its factory in Shizuoka prefecture.
