ST. LOUIS — ASI Food Safety Consultants has recently partnered with DNV, a global provider of accredited management system and product certification.
This partnership enables ASI to provide audits to the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards: British Retail Consortium (BRC), International Food Standard (IFS) and Safe Quality Food (SQF).
“This is a perfect partnership and is very exciting on our end,” said Tom Hugé, president of ASI.
To date, DNV is certified for BRC and IFS. The company is in the midst of SQF certification. ASI already has auditors trained for BRC and IFS standards.
“Our guys passed with flying colors,” Hugé said. “We are very proud of them.” Once DNV becomes SQF certified, ASI will send qualified auditors for training to provide SQF audits.
GFSI is emerging as the unifying framework for various standards and programs aimed at ensuring the safety and quality of food. Seven major retailers are using these standards to reduce risk in the supply chain. Late last year, Wal-Mart issued a mandate to its food suppliers, announcing that they must comply with one of the standards under the GFSI umbrella.
ASI and DNV will also partner to perform global audits per ASI’s strict standards.
