Purni Wickramasinghe, food safety and restaurant solutions lead at Chick-fil-A, delivered a call to action for the food safety and quality industry at the 2025 Food Safety Summit: Invest in the education and skills necessary to interpret and guide intelligent systems, and see how AI can meaningfully transform food safety and quality assurance.
“The goal of AI should not be to replace human thinking,” said Wickramasinghe, during the session “Leveraging AI for a Safer Today and Tomorrow" at the annual Food Safety Summit in Rosemont, Ill., in May. “The goal of AI should be to enhance human thinking — to empower humans to think through complex data sets so that we can make informed, accurate and fast decisions to, in this case, ensure food safety.”
In this video clip from the Q&A portion of her presentation, Wickramasinghe shares where she sees AI headed in the food safety industry in coming years.
