Since the QA Cover Profile on the family-owned Shearer’s Foods, the company was acquired by Wind Point Partners in 2012, then acquired the Private Brands business and two North American manufacturing facilities of Charlotte, N.C.-based Snyder's-Lance and Medalllion foods, then had its majority stake acquired by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in 2015.
Now, Shearer’s Snacks, headquartered in Massillon, Ohio, has set expansion plans to create 130 full-time jobs and generate nearly $4 million by the end of 2019. The expansion announcement was part of an Ohio Tax Credit Authority approval of state projects that included Shearer’s.
Read more about the history of Shearer’s evolution from 1974: “the family’s hand peeling potatoes, seasoning the chips with a metal salt shaker, packaging them in twist-tied poly-bags and delivering finished product in a single truck” to today: “eleven GFSI compliant state-of-the-art, geographically diverse production facilities” operating in nine states and Ontario, Canada.
