The Sanitarian Creed

I am a sanitarian, a highly skilled and motivated professional dedicated to preserving the environment and the health and welfare of all people through the application of scientific and practical knowledge in maintaining food manufacturing and distribution environments to achieve and sustain the highest integrity of all foods.

I am part of a team that works every day to ensure every consumer can enjoy the benefits of wholesome and nutritious foods without the fear of illness or injury. I am proud of the programs and efforts I undertake in this endeavor and willingly share my success with others to guarantee continuous improvement in the vital field of food safety. I am committed to work whenever needed to meet the demands of my trade.

In recognition of the position I hold in the food industry that I am a part of, I pledge myself in the performance of my duties and responsibilities:

• To maintain the highest standards of sanitation and food safety to provide consumers with food products of the highest integrity;
• To maintain the highest possible standards of professionalism in the execution of my responsibilities as a sanitarian and strive to continuously improve myself and others I encounter through the exchange of knowledge;
• To maintain utmost efficiency in my responsibilities remembering that food safety is at no time negotiable.

In my relations with my employers I shall endeavor at all times to be honest and loyal. In my relationship with my fellow employees and customers, may I be fair and courteous, remembering that in all persons, regardless of race, creed or position, there is a common human decency worthy of my respect. I will endeavor to treat all I encounter as I would wish to be treated.

As a sanitarian I believe in progress through the free exchange of ideas and recognize the contributions of those who came before me and the value of societies, associations and publications in my chosen field. I pledge to share my experiences and acquired knowledge with all to advance the health and welfare of the citizens of the world.

I recognize the importance of the SANITARIAN in the community and I am ready to assume the obligations and responsibilities of leadership.
