3M Molecular Detection Assay for E. coli Now AOAC Certified

Certification gives food processors greater assurance in safeguarding against E. coli, company says.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – 3M Food Safety announced it has received AOAC-PTM certification for its new 3M Molecular Detection Assay for E. coli O157 from the AOAC Research Institute’s Performance Tested MethodsSM Program.

The certification gives food processors greater assurance in safeguarding against pathogenic E. coli, responsible for 73,000 cases of foodborne illness annually in the U.S., 3M said.

The 3M Molecular Detection System combines isothermal DNA amplification and bioluminescence detection to provide fast and reliable method of pathogen detection in enriched food, feed and food process environment samples, 3M said. The AOAC-PTM certification validates 3M’s molecular approach for pathogen detection.

The AOAC Research Institute bases certification of methods on independent study results demonstrating that a given method meets its product performance claims as expressed by the package insert.
