Broomfield, Colo. — Shaun Hampton, president of revenue and vice president of sales and marketing at Crystal Diagnostics, Inc., announced a strategic partnership with IonField Systems, headquartered in Moorestown, N.J.

“With the European Union’s Plastic Reduction Policy in full swing, the EU is taking a significant step towards reducing plastic waste by banning single use plastics by the year 2030,” Hampton said. “The state of California is leading the way in the U.S., with Governor Gavin Newsom signing the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act (SB 54) in 2022, which requires producers to cut single-use plastic waste and ensure the packaging on products they sell is recyclable or compostable.

“I foresee this ecological green trend to be adopted on a national scale in the very near future. With our strategic and novel partnership with IonField Systems, we are taking a proactive approach in the significant reduction of one-use plastics and ultimately will be passing the savings on to our customers. High production level laboratories in our industry produce a tremendous amount of plastic waste that ends up in the landfill. IonField Systems allow our clients to effectively clean items like plastic tips, for example, and be able to reuse the tip five or six times, reducing the plastic waste by over 80% to 90% or more. Furthermore, this unique system is fully automated and completely cleans and reuses the tips without any additional labor or involvement. We are excited to introduce this breakthrough in which Crystal Diagnostics and IonField Systems have partnered around their shared vision of responsible industrial processes contributing to business practices.”

Paul Hensley, CEO of IonField Systems, added, “We are driven by the united belief that plasma cleaning technology has the opportunity to make a scientific, ecological and economic impact on the environment and the way laboratories operate in support of a better future. There must be future adoption of prevention of plastic pollution for the sake of future generations. Our partnership with Crystal Diagnostics will allow us to do our part in the reduction of plastic pollution in the foodborne pathogen testing industry on a global level.”
