October 30, 2021

The story is the result of an eight-month investigation by ProPublica that included public records requests, interviews with people in the industry and with families of people who were sickened.

In an ongoing effort to understand sources of foodborne illness in the United States, the Interagency Food Safety Analytics Collaboration (IFSAC) collects and analyzes foodborne illness outbreak data for four pathogens — Salmonella, E. coli O157, Listeria monocytogenes and Campylobacter.

The response, published as a podcast and summary document, provides an overview of why this consultation was so important, its main outcomes and what will happen next.

The deadline to nominate someone for one of the 20 awards is Feb. 15, 2022.

In this Salmonella lawsuit linked to onions, the plaintiff is represented by Marler Clark, The Food Safety Law Firm, and the Hill Law Firm of San Antonio.
